Very tragic event. From the linked article:
"Agencies that responded to the event were Boone Fire Department, Boone Police Department, Blowing Rock Fire Department, Blowing Rock Police Department, Watauga Sheriff’s Office, Watauga Medic, Watauga Rescue, Watauga County Emergency Management, Watauga County Communications, Boone Public Works Department, Blowing Rock Public Works Department, Red Cross, Foscoe Fire Department, Cove Creek Fire Department, Linville Central Rescue Squad, Fleetwood Fire Department, Champion Fire Department, Caldwell County Emergency Services, Lenoir Fire Department, Clairmont Fire Department, Alexander County Rescue Squad, USAR Task Force - Buncombe County."
For ONE home? With no fire? Did they have to use shuttle buses at the site? Were the total expenditures of all those agencies enough to build another home like that? How long to take care of the damage from all those vehicles and people in the area? Did one of the agencies provide traffic control for the other agencies?
I’m not trying to be callous, and the above is slightly tongue-in-cheek. I have received assistance from rescue personnel in the past, and have always been grateful for their service.
"Hey y'all, let's go check it out."

I was a resident of Boone when the developer started selling lots. Some of the houses that were ultimately built cost upwards of $1MM and that was almost 20 years ago. Might be something to that TM stuff, after all...

Heavenly Mountain was originally a Transindental Meditation Community. A lot of the homes had weird construction. Like the east wall had to be one thickness, south wall, another size, north wall something different, and west wall it’s own size. Some people took that very serious. On top of that, one of the main contractors approved to build in there (who is dead now) was a crook and cut corners constantly. You may not trust gas, but there are thousands of more issues with electricity. Also, I’m not sure, but I assume the gas was bottled propane. I doubt they got a natural gas line built all the way out there. Propane is actually hard to ignite. It’s heavy and quickly saturates it’s surroundings when released. It takes a lot of o2 to light. When you see on TV someone shoot a propane tank and it explodes, that Bull****. I say that from experience. I’ve shot 1lb propane tanks for camping with explosive rounds. With 1lb tanks, they ignite. 2 tanks together, the gas saturates the surroundings too much and only gave off a white mist. 20lb tanks the same way. Never tried larger, but I don’t see why it would be different.

I'm shocked no one is talking about this.
Two people were killed Wednesday when their home collapsed after a mudslide.
On May 30, 2018, just after 5:00 PM, Boone Fire responded to a report of a landslide into a single-family dwellingresulting incatastrophic destruction of the structure from a gas leak. The structure was located on Pine Ridge Drive in the Heavenly Mountain Community. Two persons were reported to be in the structure at the time of the event. https://www.goblueri...r-mudslide
