The called loss prevention and management on me and stopped at my car and told me to bring the stolen merchandise back in the store and there would not be a problem. I showed them my receipt and told the managers and loss prevention that I had not stolen anything and that the clerks refused to give me my money back and they would not get the item off of display and I explained it all to them and so the mnagers responded that as much as he ahted to admit it, I was in the right and by law if they are not going to be getting anymore in or they don't know when or if they will get anymore that particular item (Seasonal, furnishings, etc.) then they are supposed to sell the display and the manager went on to say he was sorry for the humiliation and embarrassment but his clerks told him that I had stolen merchandise and I said that as much as I appreciated his apologies that just was not going to get it. The manager was nice enough tot ake me back in the store and give me some money back on my original purchase plus give me a $50.00 gift card.

She should have gotten a manager before she ever got in line or the manager should have gotten ehr out of line and took her to another register to get the matter resolved. I have ran to issues like this at Big Lots here and all 3 times either the manager took me to another register or either I requested assistance to the department before deciding upon the purchase.

The worst problem I had I bought an item that came in for Christmas and it was damaged and I took the item back to the store and they told me that I could not have the item that was on display considering that it was 8 days before Christmas, I knew that they would not be reordering the the item but they told me they could order another one just like it but they could not refund me, they would have to keep my money and I said you just told me that since it is 8 days before Christmas that you probably not be getting anymore in. Now youa re telling me that you are going to withhold my money and you will order another one.

I told them they had 2 choices either I could have the one on display or they could give me my money back and they were not willing to give me the money back so I went and removed the item myself from display.

I bought two leftover $1250 mowers at Walmart once for $1600. It was February and about 20 degrees at the time.

I agree I would ask once but not argue and hold up the line.

I really wanted to go to TJ's but didn't have time. A trip to Boone does not feel complete when I miss a Maxx excursion.

Yes, I do. I've asked at Belks, Penny's and Kohls...if something was askew on the item I wanted... I would ask if they would give me an extra discount...since it was damaged goods, so to speak. I've been pretty lucky as most have always agreed....but, I've never said it wasn't enough. I was happy with what I got!

It's pretty much all in how you approach the sales people and the managers.
More than likely this manager was just trying to get that customer outta the store, before it became a frenzy!

I like to haggle but sometimes one needs to know when to say when.

Yesterday I was in Boone and stopped to pick up some things at Big lots. There was a young lady across from me purchasing home decor items. She price checked a couple things and decided against purchasing some but then asked the clerk for a discount on a mirror because it was missing part of the hanging hardware and had a scratch on the frame.

Her clerk asked my clerk if she could deduct anything and was told she could take 10% off. The girl argued that wasn't enough and wanted 20 %. They had to call the store manager and he actually agreed. In the meantime, 4 more customers had gotten in line behind her.

I'm all for saving a buck and think haggling at a place like the cattle sale or yard sale is part of the fun, but have not seen this in a retail store. Do you all think this is an ok display of frugality or not?
