Understand that the owner of sledgehammers isn't the owner if the old mellow mushroom in boone. The old mellow mushroom owner lost their franchise when they didn't renew their lease. So the owner of sledgehammers (and blowing rock mellow mushroom) was given the option to open the new mellow in boone.

I heard that Monte del Rey was opening another location there, but I don't know if it's true. I hope so!

A Mexican restaurant is going in at the old SC's location in Blowing Rock.

I think they both just had their own fans, but obviously Charlies didn't have quite enough! Personally, I thought they were kind of pricey for what they offered.

Did Sledgehammer Charlies hurt business at the Woodlands or did they just each have their own fans?

A brewery would be awesome! I'm sick to death of all of the vineyards and wineries.

Too bad about Sledgehammer Charlie's, though. I really liked them, but I've never been a huge fan of Mellow Mushroom. I haven't tried the new location, but if it's like the old one, I think there was mainly college kids in there.

There really was no lease, he was paying month to month. I know the building owner. He closed it to focus on MM, as has already been mentioned. Don't look for Sledgehammer's to open in Boone anytime soon. Several have already looked at the old Sledgehammer's location in Blowing Rock. Possibility of a brewery opening there. That would be sweet!

You're right on top of things as usual FC. The Mellow Mushroom is on the corner of Water st and King street across from the courthouse annex. It's been operating there for some time now.

Sledgehammer Charlies closed - he didn't renew his lease on the building probably at least in part because of the new highway which will kill his business while it's being constructed and will eliminate most of his parking when it's finished.

Where's the new Mellow Mushroom going to be, Fins? I wasn't a big fan of the other location, either (you weren't alone on that one, OE), but I'm getting tired of eating at the same 3 places for lunch every day!

I also was informed the blowing rock location was closed after posting earlier. I really don't think a relocation is in the works yet. I think it is safe to assume that the mellow mushroom project had been too consuming for them to start another project so soon.

I saw that they'd already closed in Blowing Rock, so does that mean that the plan is under way? Or that they're not sure whether to reopen?

I didn't realize they were the same owners of Mellow Mushroom. I didn't really like them all that much, but I think I was the only person in town that felt that way!

This is just rumor stage at this point. The owner has voiced an interest in moving from blowing rock to boone, but hasn't done anything yet. He is still busy with getting the n new mellow mushroom running
